I'll Give You The Sun is about a pair of twins who used to be really close and now are not. The book gives you a chapter in Noah's point of view when he was 13, and the next chapter will be in Jude's point of view while she is 16. Noah is a very artistic person, he has his own invisible museum in his head. He draws everybody he knows on his sketchpad, and gets beat up a lot by Big Foot and Fry. That is until he meets his new neighbor. Brian is a star carrying spy who made Big Foot and Fry apologize to him.
Jude is now sixteen and is staying as far away from boys as she can. She used to be really close to her grandma until she died when she was 13, then her mom died a couple years later. Jude is also an artist, but in a slightly different way. She isn't ever thinking about it like Noah is, but she does go down to the beach and make sculptures out of sand. Both Jude and Noah tried out for CSA (a fine arts school). Noah didn't get in and Jude did. Noah destroyed all of his paining, drawings, sketches, and all the art in the invisible museum. It really makes you wonder what really happened. What else ruined their relationship?

This spring break, I didn't go anywhere special like Florida, but I did have a great time in Iowa! I went out with my mom one of the first days of break and we went down town to the library and Iowa Book (where my dad works). I got a movie from the library that I had been waiting for since last month, and I also stole jolly ranchers from my dad's desk at work. Later in the week after a volleyball practice, we had someone come in and talk to our whole club about mental toughness, health, and teamwork.
After that talk about the staying healthy, I decided to start eating healthier and doing extra workouts to become stronger. So that night I made a plan for the next day, including what I was going to eat, when I was going to wake up, and how/when I was going to workout. So the next morning I went on a run with my dog and I gave him a bath afterwards which was so great. Then after eating lunch, I did a Nike training workout. If you are interested, the app is called Nike Training Club. I enjoyed Night more because it was more realistic and less sad. I don't really like reading/watching something when the main character dies because it's really sad and it's hard to admire/like someone who you know you won't hear about again.
Some differences in these stories are that in the movie The Boy in the Striped pajamas, it was seen at the point of view of a little boy who had a friend in the concentration camps. In Night, it was seen at the point of view of a boy who was IN the concentration camps. Another difference is that in Night, none of the Jews from Elie's concentration camp ever left to go and clean someones' house and do chores, unlike in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas where they did. Some similarities in these stories are how before arriving or seeing the concentration camps, they saw the smoke from the crematoriums. Another similarity is how there were bodies Elie and his dad had to step over in Night, and how they showed people stepping over bodies in The Boy in the Striped pajamas when they were herding people to the crematoriums. Contrast & Contradictions
pg. 74 Elie's dad had't noticed that his number was written down during the selection. He told his Elie and Elie started to pannic, but after his dad reasured him, he was silent. I think Elie felt panniced because he didn't want his dad to end up in the cremetoriums. I was shocked by his next move, which was being silent. During that time I think he was just hoping his father would end up ok. Aha Moment pg. 99 Elie thinks his dad might be dead. He said "there was no longer any reason to live, any reason to fight." He hasn't given up quite yet though. The SS officers told them to throw out the dead bodies, and Elie threw himself on his dad's body until he showed a sign he was still alive so the SS wouldn't take him. If Elie's dad had died right then and there, I don't think Elie would have ever survived because he thought there was no reason to live, and no reason to keep fighting to stay alive. Words of the Wiser pg. 110 Elie's dad is very sick and Elie keeps trying to make him better by giving his dad his ration of bread and soup. The Blockalteste told Elie that he nor the doctors could make his dad better, so he should stop wasting his food. He also said that he should be getting his dad's rations of food too because it is every man for himself here, and you can't think of others. The life lesson was that Elie never gave up on his father until it was too late, and he couldn't do anything about it. It effected Elie by accepting his dad's death easier. If I were president, I would definitely do something about our countries debt. I'm not exactly positive on how I am going to do this but it would start with spending less as a country. We can't have our country go past our debt limit, or our country will fall apart. I don't have 100% of the solution, but I bet other people have a lot more ideas on the matter. I will listen to them and then we will get make up the debt that we owe.
I would also make sure that everyone was aware of global warming. I would talk about all the progress scientists have made, and make sure people knew the facts. Maybe once more people know about whats going on, they could help come up with a solution. For example the reason global warming is happening is because of the green house gas emisions that are heating up earth's temperature. I know there are many people who don't believe in global warming, so I think this is an important topic that people should know about. The last thing I think is important to do while I am president is to also cut down on population. Everyone should know how much waste is on our land, and in our oceans and air. We need to find a solution, and I suggest replacing plastics with bioplastics. We have been learning about them in science and I really do think they will help. If you don't know what a bioplastic is, it's a type of biodegradable plastic derived from biological substances rather than from petroleum. That's what I would do if I were president. This winter break I celebrated Christmas in Iowa CIty with my Grandparents, and cousins. We first celebrate at home and then went to my grandparents house in the afternoon. When we first wake up in the morning we eat breakfast, which is always cinnamon rolls. Then we make sure everyone has opened their stockings (usually the parents because the kids have already opened theirs. After that, we open presents as a family. This year I got my mom a telescope goldfish (because his eyes are huge and shaped like telescope). She named him Merlin. For Christmas I got a City High sweatshirt, Finding Dory, Suicide Squad, Finding Pets, and a fit bit.
After Christmas came New Years Eve! My sister was at her friends house for a sleepover, so we went to our neighbors New Years Eve party without her. There, we ate food and watched football and all that great stuff. We left at about 9:00 because my brother has to go to bed. After that, I made my dad play Mario on the wii with me. We won an important level right as it turned to midnight! It was so much fun! I would think that was a sign for a great new year. This paper was all about how 18-year-olds should know how to do the following 8 life skills.
1. Talk to strangers. 2. Being able to find their way around... 3. Manage assignments. 4. Contribute to a household. 5. Handle interpersonal problems. 6. Cope with up and downs 7. Being able to earn and manage money. 8. Taking risks. They think all of these skills are a "must know" for an 18-year-old. I agree with most of these, for example number 7 because when you get to college you usually have sone kind of job to earn money to take care of yourself and pay off college. If they didn't know how to manage money and they spent it all on things they wanted instead of needed, they would'nt have any money to take care of themselves. I also agree with number 5 because if you weren't able to handle interpersonal problems, you would be unstable and hard to live with/live alone. I don't totally agree with number 4 because you usually just learn how to do all the house work when you go to college. It is a learning experience that they should have, and I know plenty of 18-year-olds who have turned out fine and enjoyed learning it. If I were in a videogame I would be in the Mario Bros on the wii. I chose this becauses I think it would be cool collecting coins, seeing Mario and Luigi, getting superpowers, saving princess Peach, and having a pet yoshi! Yoshi is SO cute!!!! Have you ever thought about how you would collect coins in a videogame? You could touch it and it would disappear, hold onto them/carry through the whole level, or maybe first have to hold it then smoosh it/snap it in half. I think getting to see Mario and Luigi would be so interesting because I could ask them questions like who is older, and who is a better player. The last reason I would want to be in this videogame is because of the superpowers I could get. It wood really cool to throw fire balls, ice balls, or shrink, and fly.
I am thankful for being able to spend Thanksgiving with my family. I am going to Okaboji, Iowa to spend Thanksgiving with my grandparents, my uncle, and my four cousins. I can't wait to see them since I haven't seen them since last year at Thanksgiving. A lot has happened since then, so I am really glad I get to see them. I am also Thankful for family in general. Knowing someone is always there for you no matter what, and helping you through tough times is what family is all about.
I am also very thankful for the food that I get everyday. I come home to find food on the table after sports practice, food in my lunchbox that I take to school each day, and food in the morning from the kitchen pantries. Some families struggle on getting food everyday, and that shows me that I should be very thankful for what I have. The last thing I am thankful for are my friends. They are always there for me, whether its picking me up when i'm feeling down, working thought a hard decision, or really listening to something I have to say and caring about it. |
